Q&A with Lisa Rankin - @nailnookbylisa  

Q:  What is your favourite nail trend at the moment, and why?

A: My favourite nail trend at the moment is the aurora nails especially with some stars! Super cute & effective even for clients that don’t like a lot of nail art!

Q:  Name 3 HONA products you couldn’t live without? 

A: 3 HONA products I couldn’t live without so so hard to narrow it down but would have to be

- Etching Tool, such a game changer when it comes to your prep. It’s vital in helping you achieve the best retention. 

-Rainbow SuperShine TopCoat is honestly my absolute favourite top coat. Goes beautifully over every colour, giving sets a different dynamic- I 100% have used it as a gentle nudge to persuade clients to be a bit more adventurous at times!

-Large flat gel brush, I’ve honestly spent so much money trying a lot of different brands but HONA's flat gel brush is perfect for getting a smooth clean application when using the detail paints.  

Q: As a self-employed nail technician, what motivates you every day?

A: Sounds so cheesy but honestly it’s the smiles I put on my clients faces everyday. Creating beautiful nails is so much fun especially a clients face when they see their inspiration pictures come to life on their own nails! It’s such a pleasure getting to be a small part of my clients lives and knowing the choose to fit me into their lives/budgets. I’ve even clients that have became friends! It’s so true what they say “Find a job that you love & you’ll never work a day in your life”

Q: What advice would you give to someone who is considering a career in the nail industry?

A: Starting out in the nail industry is the hardest part. The top two things I’d advise anyone considering starting out is 1. Really put a lot of time into researching the brand you want to work with- not just for their range of colours etc but you want one that offers a range of support in education of products, pricing, social media management and that is their to support you as a nail tech. A great brand with a great community support with make your journey easier & enjoyable! 

 A huge one is making sure you set your boundaries & policies from the beginning. It’s one of the joys of being self employed YOU set your working limits and rules. It’s essential to making sure you can be successful with a work/life balance. It’s completely achievable, you just need to believe in yourself & put the work in from the beginning.
